Visionary and Forger of
Work Paths with
Workitfy
Estefania began her journey as a professional accountant and now continues it as a leader of cutting-edge job opportunities.
Estefania Gelroth, getting to know the world in order to share her experience with other Digital Nomads through Workitfy.
The seed of Workitfy was planted during a 3-month journey through Mexico in 2019. The inspiration to create a platform dedicated to digital nomads and those who work remotely took shape during her successful participation in Silicon Valley's startup pre-accelerator program, the Founder Institute, in 2020. Workitfy is a growing ecosystem aimed at connecting destinations, companies and their workers, facilitating distributed work in Latin America. Estefania and her team help to anchor and inspire remote work and digital nomadism, collaborating with individuals, tourism areas and companies to provide the necessary tools and infrastructure.
The begin of Workitfy:
A Dream Become Reality
In 2019 along with his partner and partner, Ivan Lischet, they embarked on the adventure of traveling 3 months to Mexico, with the aim of exploring that market as a work alternative, without being clear about the 100% digital option; Upon their return, the questions and comments from many people around them was: "How did they do?", "I wish I could do it too" ...and they noticed how many people dream of a different style of work and life.
So they asked themselves: "And how could we help that?"; that was the big question that led them to explore options, and as a consequence they ended up creating Workitfy, which finally took shape when they took the project to the Founder Institute in 2020, an intensive program from which they successfully graduated, in the midst of a pandemic, which led them to give it a format specifically oriented to digital nomads.
Today at Workitfy, they are creating a platform and a community oriented so that more people can make the experience of traveling and working a more productive, companionable and fun way at the same time.
Long Term Goals:
Transforming Workitfy
They are working with people, tourism areas and companies so that together they can make remote work and digital nomadism commonplace, provide the tools, knowledge and infrastructure so that more people are encouraged, more companies take the leap to allow remote work and more destinations (public and private sector) are professionalized to provide the necessary infrastructure for a better experience.
Estefanía says: "We know that remote work is already part of the present, and also that every day more and more people, mainly as a result of the pandemic situation that we experienced, begin to prioritize other values. The present, the enjoyment, the expansion, the connection, the adventure and living TODAY is for many a priority, and the digital nomad lifestyle combines all of that.
That's why our goals are to continue working to provide a better solution for users: a platform that provides community, information on recommended establishments, and travel and productivity resources.
Today we are positioned mainly in the Riviera Maya, Mexico. Where we are also working together with Coparmex Riviera Maya, Mexico's largest business union, on the #BeNomad certification , guaranteeing Digital Nomad Friendly establishments .
In this way we professionalize the region with better services for digital nomads and digital business travelers.
We know that partnerships are key today, so we also continue to connect with organizations, educational institutions, communities and individuals with whom together we are carrying out our mission: Connecting people, businesses and destinations in a new way of work and digital nomad lifestyle.
Tips for Digital Nomads and Entrepreneurs on the Move
As an experienced digital nomad, Estefania shares practical wisdom for those looking to launch into new destinations. She stresses the importance of considering location, infrastructure, connectivity and costs when choosing a place to work and live. Her essential advice is to define your personal goals and routines to find the perfect balance between work, leisure and human connection.
What would you suggest when they are about to launch for a next destination?
On this journey, we have learned that being a digital entrepreneur, remote worker for a company or freelancer, and managing to combine travel, enjoyment, connecting with other people and maintaining goals can be challenging. And one of the main challenges, is precisely finding the places that make it easier for us to work and travel experience.
Therefore, when choosing a new destination and the places where you are going to stay and work, it is important that you can consider certain information (and that is what we encourage in the Workitfy Club). For example, regarding the place where you are going to stay:
- Location: depending on the routine you want to develop, the best alternative for you will depend on it.
- Infrastructure: It should have spaces adapted to work, both in terms of lighting, noise, electrical connections, as well as furniture.
- Connectivity: You should not only know the internet speed, but also the range, areas with better access, if it has more than one internet provider (to guarantee the service), among others.
- Also, regarding the destination:
- Cost of living.
- Transportation services (public and private).
- Communities and activities that are carried out and in which areas mainly.
- Cultural and natural attractions.
And personally, you can define your goals and routines. How will you combine leisure and connection with other people, to enjoy the destination, and all it has to offer you and your work?
Estefania's message for those who want to materialize their dreams and make them come true:
Estefania inspires those who dream of creating their own path. She reminds them that the process of materializing dreams is a journey that requires dedication and discipline.
What advice do you give to others to materialize their dreams ?
"I would like to inspire and motivate those who are not yet encouraged to embark on this adventure of CREATING THE JOB AND LIFE YOU DREAM. To you I say: If you have the clear objective, the enthusiasm and conviction and the discipline to go step by step creating it, you will soon find yourself in that place. Don't doubt it for a minute!
It is NOT magic, it is a PROCESS, that can take you a few months, a year or many more, depending on the dedication you give to that process. You can give yourself 5 minutes a day or all your available hours. It doesn't matter how much, what matters is that every day you dedicate what you can to visualize it, feel it and create it.
And to those who are already digital nomads or digital business travelers, we invite you to join the Workitfy Club, to continue together creating an ecosystem throughout LATAM, where this experience is in community, fun and productive.
-
Don't hesitate for a minute.
-
Visualize, feel and create your own path.
-
It's not magic, it's a process, and every step counts.
"Over time, I focused on the topic of work purpose, so that both people and companies can design their best way of working through that great motivator that is the "Why " .
Reflections by the author of the article:
About 20 years ago, thinking about being a digital nomad and managing your own company in Chile was something that seemed very incompatible; especially because being an entrepreneur or businessman was very much associated with the idea that the company "must have" a physical place, must have several phone lines and even a post office box address; this was changing, rapidly but at the same time gradually, with the advent of technology.
I remember that in 2005 I helped companies in the graphic design and computer industry remotely with a program called "Log Me In"; I also complemented them with other programs such as "Net Meeting", "Icq" and the famous "Msn Messenger"; I left the computer on all the time at home and from anywhere with internet connection I could access my desktop in Chile; and that was something strange for some of my clients at that time, but as they trusted me; then we kept the work link and checked that everything was going well even being far away;
I also remember installing Skype on my Nokia 6.600 a cell phone that was only available in Europe at that time, and I used it (apart from calling to install games), to have my number online, use it for Voice over IP (VOIP) calls and other interesting features for that time; in 2009 when I went to Italy and stayed living in a medieval Sicilian village in the mountains, I decided to acquire a new Skype landline number; and my clients called without problem (even some did not know I was abroad); then virtual offices began to take shape; although video calls were not popular ... until 2021 where I was living in a medieval Sicilian village in the mountains, I decided to acquire a new Skype landline number; and my clients called without problem (even some did not know I was abroad); then virtual offices began to take shape; although video calls were not popular ... until 2021 where I was living in a medieval Sicilian village in the mountains....until 2021 when the world changed and technology helped to strengthen ties when many were "isolated at home".
Now, working remotely is an exciting and much easier option; although I have known of some countries, as I have learned from other digital nomads, that try to return their workers (company dependents), to their physical jobs; this does not happen with entrepreneurs who have our own businesses.
During these last years in Mexico I have met several digital nomads who travel the world with their computers, have virtual stores, websites to offer coaching, yoga teachers who do their online courses with their clients remotely, therapists who do their sessions online, as well as others who are attracted by cryptocurrencies and the stock market world; among many other stories.
In my case managing my own communications company has been for me a learning step by step, integrating technology and taking the implementation of it as a game; so I feel lighter and I'm trying new models and software that can help me as well as other clients; also playing and reducing demands has led me to be as honest as possible with myself to maintain and continue expanding my essence.
