On March 24, 2025, we attended the emblematic webinar in which two centuries of bilateral relations between Chile and the Netherlands were celebrated, in the context of World Water Day. The event, conducted in Spanish with simultaneous translation into English through the Zoom platform, brought together outstanding experts and leaders in water resource management.
The seminar agenda included:
- Welcome remarks by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Chile, Elke Merks.
- Opening address by Martín Abeles, head of the Natural Resources Division of CEPAL.
- Presentation by Silvia Saravia Matus on Water Resources in LAC.
- Presentation by Peter Kuipers Munneke, renowned Dutch glaciologist, on the relevance and threats facing glaciers.
- Intervention by Jorge Huenante, from the General Directorate of Waters of Chile, sharing strategies for the protection of continental glaciers.
- Presentation by the Glaciares Chile Foundation by Constanza Espinosa, highlighting the role and actions in glacial preservation.
- Closing remarks by the Ambassador of Chile in the Netherlands, Jorge Carvajal.
This gathering underscored the importance of preserving our natural heritage in Chile and the world. The synergy between the experts and the passion for a sustainable present were reflected in each presentation, consolidating a space for reflection and joint action.
