On November 7, 8 and 9, in the city of Concepción, the 6th International Oncology Nursing Congress got underway — an event that featured the participation of leading experts from various disciplines who immersed attendees in new knowledge.
Nursing care for oncology patients was the center of the event and allowed us to reflect on our own activity and on how nursing professionals impact the care of children and adults with cancer and their families.
At the closing of this edition, our president Samuel Riffo filled us with enthusiasm and gave us the keys to leading change in each of our realities — especially now, when the recognition granted by law for being oncology nursing specialists fills us with pride and acknowledges us as the main agents of change in managing the care of our oncology patients.

Commitments of the Chilean Oncology Nursing Society
One of the commitments of the current board was to decentralize the events that are generally held in Santiago de Chile. Last year they held their 5th Congress in the northern zone, specifically in the La Serena Region, and this year it was the turn of the city of Concepción, in the south of the country.
Another of their commitments was to grant the greatest number of benefits to their members, and that is why the current board decided to waive the cost for members with their dues up to date.
About SEOC
The Chilean Oncology Nursing Society, an organization with national reach, has consolidated itself as a technical benchmark in oncology nursing. Its vision embraces integration and humanization in care, seeking to standardize safe, quality practices in all the oncology units of the country.
The history of SEOC dates back to 1987, when a group of oncology nurses had a dream of forging an organization that would represent them and allow them to have a common guideline that would translate into strengthening oncology nursing and into better care for patients with cancer. Thus the “Chilean Chapter of Oncology Nursing” was born.
Today SEOC is the benchmark for Oncology Nursing throughout Chile; they are pioneers in building a community in the field and in safeguarding integrated care and Quality of Life for both their community and their patients.
